MyAutoEvents.com now supports Reserved Number functionality. This feature is available to all clubs and organizations that use MyAutoEvents.com to process their entries online.
Here's how it works:
1. The event organizer defines an event that will be used to collect the reserved numbers. Create the event just like you would create any other event. When specifying start and end dates you need to set a date range that the reservation covers (Event Start and End Date should correspond to the first and last events of your season). Make sure the event start date is a date in the FUTURE or you will be unable to proceed.
2. Activate online registration for the event.
3. Select "Use this event to reserve numbers for other events hosted by your Club/Organization" option and specify an entry deadline date for when reservations will no longer be accepted.
4. Users can then register for this event to reserve numbers or the registrar for your organization can add entrants manually to reserve those numbers. When adding number reservations manually, the registrar should be sure to include the email address for the person reserving the number - email address is the link that allows that person to register with that number and prevents anyone else from using it.
5. To use the reserved number list, define a "real" event just as you normally would. On the Entry Form definition page (at the bottom) there should be a selection for you to choose another event to use as the reserved number list for the new event. Select that event and the setup is all complete!
6. When users register for the "real" event their number choices are compared against the reserved number list and either allowed or disallowed use of that number based on the email address associated with the number reservation matching the email address in their MAE profile. If the event uses unique numbers for the entire event then the number reservation list is checked just based on the number. If the event uses unique numbers per class, then the number/class combination is checked against the number reservation list.
(NOTE: This post was edited on 6/5/07 to provide better details and update the process to how it functions following the pricing policy change enacted in May) _________________ Steve Couture

I wanted to also point out that it is possible to use a previous year's reserved number list as the reserved number list for a subsequent year reserved number list (i.e. use the 2008 reserved list as a restriction on registering a 2009 reserved number). This would give prior year's number holders the ability to renew their number reservation and prevent others from "stealing" their number. After a pre-determined period (say after a month or so), the reserved number restriction can be removed from the new reserved number event allowing anyone to "snag" numbers that had previously been reserved the year before.
