Is there a way that I can sign up for some type of an event notification when new events of my interest are posted?

Absolutely!

Do an event search using the criteria that defines your area of interest.

At the bottom of the search results there is a link - "Create a Search Agent using this criteria" - click that. Then provide a name for the Search Agent and define how often you'd like to be notified of new events meeting that criteria.
